        Designed for older students who have an interest in learning to play in a small orchestra. Performance in the local community and on campus are required. Introduction to music theory as a means of learning to read music rather than learning by rote. The course intends to assist older adults in identifying and examining personal interests and aptitudes in performing music to enhance mental acuity and creativity, as well as appreciation of the arts.

        MUS 805 Course Description:
        This course provides the opportunity for older adults to learn Mariachi Instruments from the beginning stage to a proficient stage, and to perform Mariachi repertoire using proper styles, techniques, accentuations, and expressivity on instruments of their choice - including violin, viola, cello, guitar, vihuela, guitarron, small harp, accordion, trumpet, and voice. Music notation and music reading is also taught to facilitate music repertoire learning, as well as performing in a group. (Nontransferable, nondegree applicable)
