        FIRE 148 Course Description:
        Prerequisite: FIRE 144 with a grade of “C” or better or appropriate letter from a fire department Chief or Training Officer.
        This course is designed to provide students the opportunity to complete the on-line Written and the Skills Certification tests required by State Fire Training (SFT) as part of the process necessary to obtain a Firefighter I (FFI) Certificate. The class does not include any Firefighter I instruction and it is the responsibility of the student to have completed all of the instruction (including the hour requirements) as identified in the SFT FFI course plan prior to attending the course. Students are expected to be familiar with the FFI skills as found on the 63 SFT FFI Skills Sheets and be given limited time to practice these skills in the times identified for this course. At the completion of the practice portions, testing of the ten mandatory and seven random skills (chosen by SFT) will be conducted. Additional materials fee applies.         FIRE 148 Course Description:
        Prerequisite: FIRE 144 with a grade of “C” or better or appropriate letter from a fire department Chief or Training Officer.
        This course is designed to provide students the opportunity to complete the on-line Written and the Skills Certification tests required by State Fire Training (SFT) as part of the process necessary to obtain a Firefighter I (FFI) Certificate. The class does not include any Firefighter I instruction and it is the responsibility of the student to have completed all of the instruction (including the hour requirements) as identified in the SFT FFI course plan prior to attending the course. Students are expected to be familiar with the FFI skills as found on the 63 SFT FFI Skills Sheets and be given limited time to practice these skills in the times identified for this course. At the completion of the practice portions, testing of the ten mandatory and seven random skills (chosen by SFT) will be conducted. (Nontransferable, AA/AS degree only)

        Prerequisite: FIRE 144 with a grade of “C” or better or appropriate letter from a fire department Chief or Training Officer.
        This course is designed to provide students the opportunity to complete the on-line Written and the Skills Certification tests required by State Fire Training (SFT) as part of the process necessary to obtain a Firefighter I (FFI) Certificate. The class does not include any Firefighter I instruction and it is the responsibility of the student to have completed all of the instruction (including the hour requirements) as identified in the SFT FFI course plan prior to attending the course. Students are expected to be familiar with the FFI skills as found on the 63 SFT FFI Skills Sheets and be given limited time to practice these skills in the times identified for this course.         Prerequisite: Successful completion of the application process and acceptance into the Fire Academy by the Fire Technology Coordinator. Successfully pass the Basic Fire Academy Entrance Exam with a proficiency score of 70% or better and pass the Physical Agility Test.
        Fire-First Responders encompasses the disciplines of EMT, IS100,& IS700. This course is designed for individuals who will come in contact with victims of illness or injury primarily in an emergency, pre-hospital environment. This course is of value to all emergency service personnel, including ambulance personnel, law enforcement personnel, fire services personnel, hospital emergency department personnel, and other rescue personnel. Topics include roles and responsibilities of first responders, as well as evaluation and treatment of illness and injury. Procedures for dealing with life threatening emergencies are presented. The student will be able to gain a functional understanding of assessment-based approaches to patient care as well as the interventions added to the EMT I scope of practice. Hazardous Material training and semi-automatic defibrillation training will be included. IS 100- Introduction to the Incident Command System introduces the Incident Command System (ICS) and provides the foundation for higher level ICS training. This course describes the history, features and principles, and organizational structure of the Incident Command System. It also explains the relationship between ICS and the National Incident Management System (NIMS). IS 700- This course introduces and overviews the National Incident Management System (NIMS). NIMS provides a consistent nationwide template to enable all government, private-sector, and nongovernmental organizations to work together during domestic incidents.         Corequisite: Physical training is an important component of being a fire fighter; all candidates should be in good physical condition before entering into a firefighting career.

        Basic Fire Academy II is the second of two courses of the Fire Academy designed for the individual who desires a career as a professional firefighter. This course includes instruction in the operation and maintenance of fire service ground ladders, forcible entry tactics and strategies, rescue safety and operations, fire control techniques, salvage and overhaul operations, principles of fire protection water systems, fire investigation, fire prevention, vehicle extrication, and wild land firefighting.         FIRE 220 Course Description:
        Prerequisite: CA Class "B" firefighter restricted license minimum.
        Recommended Preparation: Fire Fighting I training recommended.
        This course provides the student with information on driver responsibilities, recognized standards, and related laws for fire apparatus. Topics include basic inspections, documentation, maintenance, and troubleshooting fire apparatus, and techniques on driving and positioning fire apparatus. Each student also has the opportunity to increase his or her driving skills during simulated driving conditions. (CSU)

        This course is the study of the components of building that relates to fire safety. The elements of construction and design of structures are shown to be key factors when inspecting buildings, preplanning fire operations, and operating at fires. The development and evolution of building and fire codes will be studied in relationship to past fires in residential, commercial, and industrial occupancies.
